BookQuote — Privacy Policy

BookQuote is a Chrome new tab extension that shows inspiring quotes from books. We take privacy seriously: we collect no personal information and you do not need an account to use the extension.

What we collect

The extension sends anonymous usage events to our server (bookquote.wnds.link) so we can understand which features are used. Each event contains:

• client_id — a random UUID generated on first install and stored locally in chrome.storage.local. It is not linked to your Google account, browser profile, IP address, or any personal identifier.
• event_type — one of: impression, buy_click, audible_click, next_click, genre_change, share_click.
• quote_id — the internal ID of the quote displayed (optional, present on most events).
• genre — the genre filter selected at the time of the event (e.g. Fiction, Business).

No IP address is stored in the events table. No email address, name, or any other personally identifiable information is ever collected.

Local storage

The extension stores two values locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local:

• client_id — the anonymous UUID described above.
• selected genre — your last chosen genre preference.

This data never leaves your device except as part of the anonymous analytics events described above.

How we use the data

Analytics events are used solely to understand aggregate usage patterns — for example, which genres are most popular and how often users follow affiliate links. We do not sell this data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose beyond operating and improving the extension.

Third parties — Amazon Associates

BookQuote participates in the Amazon Associates affiliate program. When you click a "Buy on Amazon" link, you are redirected to Amazon via our server, which appends an affiliate tag to the URL. Amazon may set its own cookies and collect data according to Amazon's Privacy Notice. BookQuote receives a small commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.

Similarly, Audible links point directly to audible.com product pages. Audible's own privacy policy applies to any interaction on their site.

We do not use any other third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or tracking pixels.

Data retention

Anonymous analytics events are retained on our servers for aggregate trend analysis. Because events contain no personal data, there is no meaningful way to delete "your" events — the client_id is random and not linked to you. If you wish to generate a fresh client_id, you can clear the extension's storage via chrome://extensions → BookQuote → Storage → Clear.

Children

BookQuote is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
